Jim Detmers

 

As Vice President of Operations, Jim Detmers is responsible for managing system reliability within the control area of the California Independent System Operator (California ISO). Overseeing the organization's Grid Operations, Scheduling and Engineering areas, Mr. Detmers is responsible for coordination of all transmission and generation maintenance and operations activities. His duties include maintaining the Minimum Operating Reliability Criteria (MORC) established by the North American Reliability Council (NERC) and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). He is also responsible for reporting on operations in general and investigating and reporting on system disturbances that occur in the control area.

Mr. Detmers played an instrumental role in the start-up of California ISO operations including writing and implementing many of the Protocols and Operating Procedures. In April 2000, he was promoted from Director of Engineering and Maintenance to Managing Director of Operations.

Before joining the California ISO in 1997, Mr. Detmers worked for Pacific Gas and Electric in a variety of leadership roles including Transmission Operations, Area Operations, and Distribution Engineering. He also worked for the Modesto Irrigation District and Westinghouse Electric.

Mr. Detmers received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer in the state of California.
